Luquillo: El Yunque Rainforest Hike and Waterslide Adventure

About This Experience
Island Journeys runs the most safety-credentialed version of the rainforest adventure in this catalogue: bilingual guides carrying lifeguard, CPR and first-aid certification, with training and equipment included. At 4.8 from 475 reviews it is also one of the best-reviewed, and at four hours it is the tightest — most of that time is spent in the forest rather than on the road.
The catch is transport, and it is not a small one. You must arrive at the Frutera Flores fruit stand in Luquillo under your own steam in a rental car or your own vehicle, then follow the guide's vehicle to the trailhead. Taxis and Uber do not work for this, and the wait at the meeting point is capped at 15 minutes. If you have no car, book one of the San Juan tours instead.
What you get for it is a day with less commuting and more river. The guide collects fresh local fruit at the stand before you leave — you can buy fritters or a smoothie there too — then leads a hike with river crossings to a hidden pool for swimming, a waterfall, the natural rock waterslide, a rope swing and jumps from the rock formations. The fruit is handed round afterwards, and the photos are free.
Parking and forest entry are included in the rate, so there is no gate admin at your end. The terrain is rated moderate to strenuous: muddy, slippery, uneven, with river-wading, rock-climbing and steep sections.

What Travelers Say
Rated 4.8/5 by 475 verified GetYourGuide travelers.
Highlight of the whole trip. The guides were fantastic - funny and conscientious. The trip tested the kids (9yo and 14 yo) with rock water slides, cliff jumps and rope swings but there was difficulty levels for all ages. Everyone in the family said this was their favorite day of the whole trip. Highly recommended.

We had such a wonderful time! Our guides Bradley and Paola were very fun and knowledgeable. The hike was pretty moderate and only got a little tedious once you got to the water activities. Would highly recommend this hike!
